Jennifer DeLucy![]() Jennifer DeLucy Interview for OMNIFIC ![]() Paranormal romance author JENNIFER DELUCY is proud to have Omnific Publishing offering her debut novel, Seers of Light. While devoting herself to Seers, Jennifer still found time to delve into the world of Internet fiction, building a substantial following in that unique community. She writes both contemporary and paranormal romance, but also has a yearning to write a good old fashioned historical romance. In honor of its release on February 16, 2010, Jennifer has agreed share a little bit about her writing process and the publication of her first book, Seers of Light. Omnific: What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to write a book? Jennifer DeLucy: Honestly? The story came about in a very "experience it as you go” kind of way. Some authors work really productively with extensive outlines, but, alas, I've discovered that I have an outline phobia. Oh, I'll prepare one if I have to, but for Seers of Light, as I progressed, some piece would simply become thrillingly clear on its own. I didn't force anything. Just as Lily (my protagonist), didn't know what was going on or what was right and wrong at first... I didn't either, frankly! I figured it out along the way, just as real life demands. We aren't all Seers, after all. Generally, once I’ve fallen into the story, it takes me about six months to really complete it in a way that satisfies me. Then comes the editing… and that’s a whole other bag of beans. Omnific: What inspired you to write Seers of Light? Jennifer DeLucy: My family had just suffered a loss, and it reminded me of what was important, what I believed and how I felt about life. And that realization kind of spurred me along. I felt strongly compelled to write and wasn't about to ignore that feeling. So I began this tale (having no plans and no idea what to expect), and son of a gun if it didn't build itself and stump me with surprises along the way. Nothing ended up the way I assumed it would... and I couldn't have been more ecstatic about that. Omnific: Tell us about the main characters in Seers of Light. Jennifer DeLucy: Lillian Hunt, or Lily, as she prefers to be called, is pretty passionate by nature. She’s grown up with a small town mentality, but her suspicion that there is more to the world than meets the eye is confirmed when she is attacked by an ominous creature on a lake trail. Enter the apparent hero, Christian Wright, who seems to know more about Lily than she does. He introduces her to his family, an aged Seer named Abram, and William Maddox, a wild card and very controversial figure, indeed. Omnific: Do you plan to write a sequel to Seers of Light? Jennifer DeLucy: I do. And it may, or may not, be in the works at the present moment... Omnific: What is your best advice for an aspiring writer? Jennifer DeLucy: I’d say, first and foremost, educate yourself in grammar as devotedly as you can. Then, once that manuscript is polished, be open-minded about it. When you first write a book, you expect Random House to come knocking down your door to publish it, but, the reality is that the road to publication is not a pleasant experience, and if you take it on with an inflexible attitude, demanding fame or a specific outcome, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Be open to all possibilities and never give up. Also, remember why you loved to write to begin with. If you lose that sense of joy that writing gave you in the first place, fight like mad to regain it. That’s what makes your writing beautiful. Omnific: Thank you so much for being so generous with your time, Jennifer. Everyone is looking forward to reading your novel, Seers of Light, available February 16, 2010 at www.omnificpublishing.com. |
